Substance abuse is dependence on a drug or other chemical leading to effects that are detrimental to the individual's physical and mental health, or the welfare of others. Fletcher Allen's outpatient clinic for substance use and co-occurring disorders is called Day One. The program provides screening, assessment, treatment, and referral for addictions. Utilizing a team approach with licensed master-level clinicians and an addiction psychiatrist, treatment includes: participation in Fletcher Allen's Intensive Outpatient Program, group and individual counseling, psychiatric services and psychopharmacology.
